An HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 adapter would help with 5K if the macOS driver was fixed for people that don't have two DisplayPorts. It would probably help in Windows with the existing Windows drivers. DisplayPort and HDMI are both digital signals so there isn't any difference in quality. DisplayPort has higher bandwidth (and some other features), but that's not useful if your monitor doesn't need it. An HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 adapter would be useful for game console owners that want to connect their console to a DisplayPort display instead of a TV. Not only all the issues are gone, I also think OSX interface is more readable and usable at this resolution (and of course Windows 10 looks much better in Parallels). Frankly, I can't think too many scenarios in which 5k would be better than 4k on a 27' monitor.
Of course, buying a 5k monitor to drive 4K resolution is less than ideal. After a couple of months of experience with a Dell UP2715K I came to the conclusion that I would NOT recommend this monitor for a hackintosh setup.
