Emma spent time with the education and exhibition teams developing her curatorial research skills and increasing her knowledge of exhibition design and education program development. Jenny Alder, Archivist and Volunteer Coordinator, Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum Volunteer Placement at State Records Authority of NSW With an understanding of the theory behind collection management this placement provided Jenny with practical skills experience in handling, digitizing and recording collection material. Jenny applied what she learned through engaging the volunteers at the Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum in developing a researchable collection database that can be used for education, research and public program activities and purposes. The Programs Funded by Arts NSW on behalf of the NSW Government, this program provides professional development opportunities for everybody, whether you’re paid senior or volunteer staff in a museum or gallery.

Applicants can apply to spend two weeks at one of M&G NSW’s pre-arranged placements; the Australian Museum or the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, or arrange their own placement. For senior staff. In 2014, applicants can apply to spend two weeks with the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, Dallas Museum of Art, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea or to arrange a fellowship of their own choice.
